Chiropractic FAQ

Answers to the questions Knoxville patients ask us most. Don't see yours? Call (865) 693-1911.

What is a chiropractor?

A chiropractor is a healthcare professional who focuses on detecting and correcting spinal subluxations (misalignments) that interfere with how your nervous system and body function.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No. Most insurance plans cover chiropractic care without a medical referral.

What conditions does Dr. Scott treat?

Back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, joint and nerve pain, vertigo and dizziness, posture problems, and more.

What happens at my first visit?

A personal consultation with Dr. Scott, a comprehensive exam, and X-rays if needed. We review what we find and lay out a clear plan. Our new-patient special covers this for $45.

What should I bring, and what should I wear?

Bring your health history, any prior scan or MRI reports, and a list of medications. Wear loose, comfortable clothing with little or no metal — many patients bring shorts and a t-shirt.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. Dr. Scott tailors the technique to you, including the gentle, low-force Activator Method, which uses a handheld instrument with no twisting or popping.

Do you accept insurance?

We are providers for most major plans, including BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare, UMR, Aetna, HealthMarkets, Ambetter, Tennessee Medicaid (TennCare), and Wellpoint. We also accept CareCredit.

Do you use X-rays?

When they are clinically useful, yes. Dr. Scott analyzes X-rays for posture and alignment using Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) marking analysis, so your plan is built on what is measured, not guessed.

What is the Activator Method?

A gentle, low-force adjusting technique that uses a handheld instrument instead of manual thrusts. Dr. Scott also offers the Activator Method.

Do you see children and pregnant patients?

Yes. We provide gentle family chiropractic care for all ages, including infants, children, and expecting moms.

How do I cancel or reschedule?
